The choice between laser and plasma cutting depends not so much on the cost of the equipment as on the production tasks.

  • If high precision, a clean edge, and minimal subsequent part processing are required, preference is usually given to fiber laser systems. They work efficiently with thin and medium sheet metal, ensuring consistent cutting quality.
  • Plasma cutting wins when processing thick sheet metal. It features high productivity and lower costs for cutting large parts.

Before buying a metal cutting machine, it is worth evaluating not only the price of the equipment, but also potential expenses for consumables, electricity, maintenance, and operator training.

For the production of parts with complex geometry and mass production of products, laser technology usually proves to be a more efficient solution. If, however, the main task is cutting thick structural steel without strict requirements for edge quality, plasma cutting often becomes an economically justified choice.
